Internal - Waste pipes, traps etc

Avoid putting coffee/tea granules, grease, fat, paint emulsion etc down sinks as these will eventually solidify in the pipe work (especially when cool) and cause blockages in the long term.

If sink or washing machine wastes are blocked this is normally due to the items mentioned above, and we would recommend that you initially try hot soapy water on the waste traps to clear them. If the problem persists, and you are confident enough, you could remove the trap underneath the sink (or behind the washing machine) and clean out any debris etc. After refitting the trap, pour boiling water through the waste pipe until it's running clear.

If available, use a hand plunger to try and dislodge the blockage. If the problem persists however, the pipe work may need to be electrically eeled through, or dismantled and replaced by a specialist.
